Spring is coming...

We all woke up sweating yesterday morning because our heater was still on, our heavy blankets still on our beds so we figured something had to be going on with the weather. Yesterday it was in the 70s here. In February. What in the world?

Since it was such a lovely day we opened the blinds, let some sun in. We opened up the windows (after we turned off the heater) and let some fresh air in. And while we were all studying, we heard something that was terrifying.

We heard birds chirping.

Yes. Birds chirping is terrifying. I'm not being melodramatic. Well, maybe I am, just a little bit though.

There is a bird that likes to nest in the corner of our balcony at our apartment. It has the past two years and we figured when we heard birds chirping yesterday they were getting ready to build their nest, again. I have no problem with birds. They can do what they need to do to survive for another year, but I wish they would not do it on our balcony!

This bird...geez. It's very territorial. Whenever we left our apartment it would dive bomb us either while we're walking out the door or while we've got our backs turned to lock the door. We got to the point where we would crack the door, stick our hand out, wave our keys to make noise, get the bird to fly off, hurry out the door, lock it, and walk quickly to the stairs before the bird could return. We would do a variation of that when we came home so that we could just enter our apartment.

It got annoying. Quickly.

This year though, we are prepared. Eva's mom had gotten her a wind-chime (from Mexico, I think) that has elephants on it and Eva had no place for it. I told her to hang on to it until spring came and we could hang it up on the balcony and hope that it will keep the bird from making a nest up there this year. So when we heard birds chirping yesterday Eva grabbed the wind-chime, someone grabbed a chair and we hung the wind-chime up. It is certainly getting a lot of wind where it is and making wonderful wind-chimey noise.

Let's hope that it works and we won't get birds dive bombing us anymore.
